Yeah! For only the second time in my life I have encountered mulberries. As a kid, we used to have a tree house in a mulberry tree, as well as several trees around the house. There were also some mulberry trees in the grove of trees between my and Brian's house. I used to eat them on my way to play shark attack or whatever the day's fun was. Since then, however, I have seen no mulberry trees whatsoever. Until here, that is. Dee, Sandy, and I stumbled across one on our walk to the "fortress". Since then I have seen them all over. I must admit, I could not contain my excitement and had to eat one. It was definitely as good as I remember (despite the look on my face). I also ran across some with my colleagues from the mental health center here. They warned me that mulberries would stain me and my clothes and didn't seem to think they were good for anything else. Little do they know.

ah, mulberries. we had mulberry trees at my childhood home (who says that?). i remember one time when we had a babysitter, my brother went out in his white socks and ran around under the mulberry trees. not so white after that. i remember being very high and mighty and telling him how mad mom and dad would be when they got home. and feeling very satisfied about this declaration. a few summers ago, brian and i collected mulberries from some of his family's ground and made mulberry rhubarb pie. mmm.
hey! i love your blog :) sounds like much fun is being had by all!! :) ~elise
I think I always associate mulberries with childhood because of "To Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street," which was my favorite Dr. Seuss book. Can you email me or somehow secretly send me the address where mail will find you in early August? Thanks :)
We have a bunch of mulberry trees on campus here in NM, and nobody down here knows how to use them either. I suggested picking them with the kiddos at school, and another teacher actually told me not to because they are "poisonous"! I laughed and told her that everyone in KS might as well be dead then, for all the pies and jams we eat made out of mulberries. She was amazed.
